So, the question I’m putting before us today is how best to get the e-books that you want in an efficient and cost-effective manner. I have 4 “ecosystems” to choose from 1. amazon 2....

staring at that IM contact list
staring at that IM contact list i sometimes wonder what each online person is doing at this momentwhat kind of sofa chair or seat they are sitting on what the weather is like if they have colds or headaches or more pressingly, what they are thinking about lifeat this very moment.and i hope that they in some way care about me.They are always so tantalizingly there, but not there and whenever i...
Cognitive Dissonance with Chinese Characteristic...
This is some of what i have to translate today—and this paragraph in particular makes my head explode. Why? Notice the mixture of revolutionary language—mobilization, praxis—and 21st century capitalismis interesting but it’s hell to translate, in some way because the revolutionists’ idiom is lost on me— the cliches corporate capitalism, also present here, are...
Contradictions
the journalistic impulse to bear witness, to explain, to describe, to encounter the Other is at odds with my more introspective, elitist, and intellectual side. The latter tells me that life is more bearable to both study and act upon in those rarefied realms it tells me that i am always more at home in the world of my own ideas and emotions I have ceased to be able to be social. I know the game...

Lars Vilks and a day in the Swedish countryside
We went to take a look at the public art that Swedish artist Lars Vilks created in the countryside, by the sea. These wood and stone structures remind you ofsiege towers and fortresses—but made of driftwood and somewhat haphazardly nailed together. That is what gives them their “aesthetic” quality but on the other hand, according to the artist and builder, who was on site...

知足
I met Hope and Ryan in the little beach resort north of Nuweiba where i was staying. We had all signed up for the walking up Mt Sinai at night so that you cancatch the sunrise trip, and during this time we got to know each other a bit. They are a lovely couple, and are now working in Hebron as part of a Christian peacemaker team. Although it’s nice to meet people from other countries,...
my mediterranean diet
Well, everyone knows of the virtues of the mediterranean diet. This is just to remind you of how good that shit looks too. Tahine, pita, and a Greek salad. The can of Stella (Egyptian beer, supposedly owned by Heineken?) is not pictured. This is what i love about this region. you can get the food anywhere but it just tastes a hell of a lot better here. Posted via email from...
Jebel Amman
Jebel Amman—Rainbow Street—a slightly trendy place for young people to hang out. We visited the lovely Royal Film Commission, walked around the hilly streets, watched the sun go down. It was nice. Lots of young people, some playing guitar, as you can see. Would have been cooler if i’d seen this with younger and less jaundiced eyes Posted via email from peijin’s...
The Suez Canal
See and download the full gallery on posterous Did you know you can fish for crabs in the Suez Canal? you do now. I ended up here by accident—because there were no buses to Taba in Nuweiba, so they told me to go to Suez, after which i found out i still had to go to Nafa to get my bus. I stayed only a night in Suez, but it so happened that my hotel was near the canal so i decided to check...
the one and only commandment
Here I am, at the top of Mt. Moses as they call it, Mt. Sinai, where Moses received the ten commandments. If, however, there was only one rule to live by, it would have to be this: love someone, and love them well. Love them with everything you’ve got. The rest really doesn’t matter. I’ve not done that yet. I hope to remedy this before I die—so that one day I can climb up...
